OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND
A glowing camping tent became a roaming reminder of what society chooses not to see. Installed in public spaces across Austin—from empty downtown lots to the Capitol lawn—the piece linked homelessness and environmental neglect as shared symptoms of collective blindness.
Created as part of Micro Galleries’ global response to COP26, Out of Sight, Out of Mind was my first public art installation and an act of artivism born from deep concern for both people and planet. Inspired by the sight of tent encampments and the growing tension between “public eyesores” and public empathy, the work sought to interrupt daily life, merging the language of homelessness with that of climate crisis. By drawing attention to those living without shelter—and to a planet facing the same fate—the project reframed apathy as blindness and awareness as care.
